Information about the Department of Mold and Die Engineering

A hearty welcome to the Department of Mold and Die Engineering!
Established in 1970, our department, a unique department among the whole universities in Taiwan, started from five years junior college, promoted into four years undergraduate program in 1998 and began to set up graduate programs in 2002. Currently, the 660 full-time undergraduate students and 130 graduate students receive the personal attention of 26 full-time professors and one full-time lecturers.

High-quality research develops the faculty’s intellectual skills and benefits the students in the lecture hall and laboratory. Our full-time faculties are very active in research and have published over 100 technical papers in the past five years. They perform research in injection mold flow, mechanisms, biomechanics, heat transfer, metal forming, materials science, and manufacturing.
The department offers graduate programs for full-time study as well as part-time which is suitable for practicing engineers. Most of our graduate courses are offered in the day, and it is possible to obtain an MS degree completely on weekends. Full-time graduate students are required to perform research and write a thesis for their Master’s degree. The department has significantly increased financial support for all our eligible international students by offering tuition fees and free dormitory.

Our graduates are actively recruited by some of the best companies in Taiwan, including Foxconn Technology Group, Foxlink, ASUS and other mold and die design companies.

Brief Introduction of the Department of Mold and Die Engineering

The department has been conferred the responsibility to help upgrade the national mold and die level and manufacturing technology. To these ends, besides providing engineering education to undergraduates, a Graduate Institute started to offer Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in 2002 and 2007, respectively. The department now educates an average of 150 undergraduate students annually and has over 60 graduate students performing research in the mold and die technology. Currently, the department has 29 active faculty members. Recent research areas are grouped into six divisions, namely: Mold and Die Group, Manufacturing Group, Material science Group, Solid Mechanics Group, Thermal Fluid Group, Energy and Biomechanics Group.

Information about the Graduate Institute of Applied Sciences

We focus on fundamental science and applied technology and aim at fostering students to have capabilities of renewable energy technology, biomedical skill and system integration.  In order to provide graduates with a broad education, our graduate program is currently divided into three major study areas: green, health, and intelligence.  Green program especially centers on photovoltaic, fuel cell and wind energy.  Health program combines engineering, physics, engineering technology, biomedicine and clinical application, developing students’ diversity of knowledge and skills.  At last, intelligence emphasizes on system integration which is vital to raise the standard of living and satisfy people’s demands.  Our goal is to educate students to become engineers with knowledge and techniques to solve problems in the industry.

Brief Introduction of the Graduate Institute of Applied Science

(1) Features
The Graduate Institute emphasizes the studies on basic science and applied technology.  It aims to foster professionals who are capable of applying knowledge and technology of renewable energy, biomedicine, and system integration to practical engineering problems.

(2) Research Areas
The studies focus on the spotlights of today’s technology world: green, health, and intelligence.

  1. Green: With the goal of clean, efficient, sustainable energy production and energy saving in mind, the Institute focuses the research on various types of burgeoning energy, such as solar power, fuel cell, and wind power.
  2. Health: Biomedical engineering is a cross-disciplinary engineering science which combines engineering, physics, engineering technologies, biomedicine, and clinical applications. The purpose is to foster professionals with integrated knowledge on both engineering technologies and medical engineering.
  3. Intelligence: The primary emphasis is system integration. With technical advancement and living standard enhancement, people hold higher standard to the quality of the living environment. Hence, designing intelligent living space is essential to meet the needs of modern people.

(3) Employment and Further Study

  1. Employment: The graduates of the Institute can choose to join the workforce in the industries of mold and dice engineering, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, electronics and electrical engineering, plastics engineering, and biomedical engineering.
  2. Further study: The graduates of the Institute can also choose to enter doctoral programs in Taiwan or overseas for advanced study.
